On Saturday the 29th October 2016, the Commodore, Mr Graham Rose and member of the Sailing Committee, Mrs Jennifer Weyer, who heads up our Junior Sail Training Program had the pleasure of attending the 1st Port Natal Sea Scouts, Annual General meeting and Awards Ceremony.
Our next door neighbours, who are this year celebrating their 102nd anniversary, entertained their guests with all the usual traditions and ceremony of this longstanding organization. It is indeed gratifying to see the look of sheer delight on the faces of these youngsters and their parents as they received their awards.
The Scout Leader, Koko who is a regular member of RNYC Rescue, certainly does a wonderful job helping these young people expand their horizons and minds as they grow up in today’s modern world. It is also pleasing to know that these young people are fortunate to be able to use the facilities next door to us which are equipped with a computer and internet facility and where the Scout Leader supervisors their homework every afternoon ensuring they are not left unsupervised on the streets and shopping malls.
Mrs Jennifer Weyer assists the Sea Scouts with teaching sailing and can be seen out on the water in front of the Clubhouse with Jennifer at every weekend high tide.
We look forward to assisting more of these young citizens of Durban and teaching them about sailing and the yachting lifestyle which we are so fortunate to enjoy. The Sea Scouts are desperately short of resources and we would like to encourage members to offer their assistance with financial support for the repair and maintenance of the 1st Port Natal Sea Scout’s fleet of dinghies.”
