We are delighted to announce that our friends from the Royal Southern Yacht Club, who are also fellow members of the prestigious International Council of Yacht Clubs (ICoYC), have extended an invitation to the Royal Natal Yacht Club to participate in the 2nd annual Inter Yacht Club Challenge at Antigua Sailing Week 2016 which runs from 23rd to 29th April 2016.
Last year’s inaugural event saw 11 yacht clubs from as far afield as Canada and South Africa competing for the trophy which was eventually won by the Guernsey Yacht Club. Members are invited to enter a team to compete under the burgee of the Royal Natal Yacht Club for the Inter Yacht Club Challenge Club.
The challenge is sailed in what can only be described as Champagne Sailing conditions although the racing is tough. According to the Commodore of Royal Southern Yacht Club, Chris Mansfield, “racing fast in perfect conditions requires skill, focus and concentration that challenge even the most hardened professionals, especially the after parties for which Antigua Sailing Week is so famous! What’s not to like about a beautiful island where the mixers cost more than the rum and it’s a place your non-sailing partners will have plenty to other things to do and with daily flights to Antigua its one of the most welcoming sailing destinations.”
Royal Southern Yacht Club will be arranging extra events for non-sailing partners; and on Tuesday after racing participating Inter Yacht Club Challenge crews are invited to the Royal South Yacht Club’s drinks party on the lawns of the Antigua Yacht Club.
If you are interested in participating in this premier yachting event and entering a team to challenge Team Southern Racing please contact our Sailing Secretary Margie Harris.
