Carols Sailing Report 10 January 2018

Ahoy Sailors

All the very best for 2018 to one and all;  I hope everyone was blessed with safe travels  and quality family time.  I know I was.

A big thank you to all the sailors for their gifts of toys – I distributed the gifts to the children in Medical and Surgical Wards  at King Edward hospital on Christmas Eve, for which they were most grateful.

Can you believe, we are now halfway through our sailing season – ??  Our Leader Board is updated – thank you Clive Jackson for your input – so be in it to win it!!

RNYC is hosting this Wednesday night Fun’d sailing, Windguru has predicted a light SE 7/8 so hopefully we will get a race in and enjoy an evening on the water, thereafter a supper and a“cold one” on the lawns .

There is Dinghy sailing next Saturday at 2pm in the Bay, and for those more adventurous, RNYC are hosting the first race in the Squadron series on Sunday 14th January off shore.

We, in the sailing fraternity, were saddened to learn of Ian Slatem’s death on New Year’s Day – having gone abseiling off Table Mountain with two visitors to SA. Ian’s Memorial service is being held at the MCSA (Mountain Club) 97 Hatfield St. CT at 2pm. Anyone wishing to attend will be most welcome.  Ian was an avid sailor and chairman of the L26 Association. Our sincere condolences to out to his family.

Thank you to everyone for your support so far – our CANSA Funding will still be in progress.  Let’s look forward to a great second half of the season.

Yours in sailing

Carol
