Dramatic TP52 Sailboat Racing Crash

The crash occurred in the 2nd race on the first day of the Miami event. The Gladiator was approaching the first turning mark on a starboard tack when it was struck by the other boat on port tack. On course umpires witnessed the collision and the other boat was disqualified.
Gladiator sustained serious damage and retired from the race.
There were no serious injuries. Langley can be seen stepping over the incoming bow sprit, narrowly avoiding serious injury but sustained a sprained wrist when the wheel was ripped from his hands.

The Gladiator support team worked around the clock and the team’s ‘B’ boat was re-commissioned in West Palm beach and sailed overnight the following day to enable the team to continue competing, losing just one day
