The Flying 15 nationals got underway with the Xmas Regatta on the public holiday 16th December.
Unfortunately conditions were blown out and the competitors chose to abandon in favour of the expected improved weather on the following weekend.
The weather duly materialised and the fleet took to the water in shifting South south-westerly conditions of approximately 12-15 knots. Unfortunately , they were short of one boat to make class numbers , so the Nationals reverted to the Xmas regatta. Nevertheless, some fiercely competitive racing took place with some very close finishes.
Currently the provisional results are out and the Open Class has been won by Jeremy Kriek and Patrick Harris on FFIGGJAM followed by Paul Changioun and Tim Duguid on FOXXOFF.
The Classic Class was taken by Chris Sutton and Chris Kloppenborg on FFENOMINAL. The also managed a very creditable 5th overall. In second place were Deajay Latha and Nhlanhla Pakathi on FFINANCIAL FLING with a 7th place overall.
Thanks go to Race Officer Rob Bell who ran his usual efficient, “tight ship” , ably supported by Carol Ferguson, Jennifer Weyer, Steve Barton Hobbs on the helm as well as Derrick Latouf, Chris Parry, Hans Dettman , new volunteer Jacques Stephens and Patricia Kilburn from RNYC Rescue.
