Members will be saddened to learn of the passing of “Vasco da Gama Doyen” Mick Taylor.

Many will remember Mick from the 1990’s as the owner of the Stat 34 Seaboard when he dominated the annual race from Durban to East London as is recorded in the Club’s official history book Salt on the Sails “By the 1990’s the Durban to East London, Wilbur Ellis Vasco da Gama race was a well established and eagerly anticipated event on the local sailing calendar. This was the era when Mick Taylor ruled as king of the waves. “Mick is one of the most respected of the older generation of sailors”, said former club secretary, Steve Coxen. “he is known for his achievements and for introducing people onto his boat and to the sport of sailing.” During the 1990’s Taylor dominated the Vasco races sailing his yacht Seaboard, which sported a particularly colorful spinnaker.” See pages 417 to 421 for more. Our sincere condolences to Mick’s family and many friends.
