Report on Oyster Box Race – Sunday 31 July 2016

Ahoy All Sailors

Firstly – thank you to all who joined in the last of the Squadron series this past Sunday – it was very well attended with approx. 16 Keelers, 2 darts and 2 Halcats.  The wind could have been a bit stronger all round but at least we managed to get a race in.    Rob Samways, sailing his Dart with an Assym kite powered home in about 1 and 3.4 hours, closely followed by Bellatrix.  The rest of the fleet came in slowly but surely with the slower yachts bringing up the rear between 3pm and 3.30pm, which was our cut-off time.

Again thank you to Rob and Sandy for waiting to do the results for us –  I appreciate your help.

Thank you to Steve Rawlins and his faithful bar staff  ensuring we were fed and watered.  We had Glen Smith and his team out on mark laying;  Alec Mc N and Moses on Galaxy keeping a close eye on the cat fleet and Hans Dettman ably assisting myself and Jennifer on bridge.  I thank EVERYONE for their support – no sailors = no sailing.

Important dates to diarise please :

Our new season begins on Sunday, 18th September with our Opening Cruise and bay race.  The following weekend  23 – 25th September,  will be our R N Regatta and we have a bumper event organised for everyone, with Gary Baxter of GB Packaging once again being our main sponsor.  Gary will be bringing his staff with him this year to show exactly what the sailors get up to and where their sponsorship is going.  We hope to ensure that they are able to climb on a couple of boats whilst they are with us – let’s extend a warm welcome to our visitors.   Thank you to Trent Bester and his team from Riebeek Cellars who are also helping us with sponsorship.  So this is going to be an event not to be missed.    Start thinking about your Potjie competition now

Thursday 22nd September               Registration to the Regatta – 4pm till 7pm

Friday 23rd September                      Our exciting – look for clues – game  between 4pm and 7pm and then back to RNYC for entertainment – not to be missed – all participation goes towards points in the overall regatta

Saturday 24th September                 Sailing off shore  – partying afterwards to our Band:  Nautical theme – more on this soon

Sunday 25th September                   Bay race and Potjie competition – all hands on deck  –  Prize giving and close of event.

Monday everyone back to work to relax –

I will also be pushing forward with our RNYC CANSA Fun’d racing from the start of the season and will be challenging our yachts to bigger and better things in the new season.  You did so much last season – I hope you are able to contribute to this worthy cause again.

See you on the water

Yours in sailing

Carol
