Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron – Reciprocal Agreement

Through our membership of the ICoYC we were approached by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron to share reciprocal privileges.  We are pleased to announce that a reciprocal agreement has been signed between the two clubs and we look forward to a long and mutually prosperous relationship with the RQYS. Last year RQYS was awarded Australia’s Club of the Year.

The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is located on the shores of beautiful Moreton Bay is south east Queensland, approximately 30 minutes from the Brisbane CBD.  The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is home to one of Queensland’s oldest and most prestigious recreational sailing and cruising clubs. Formed in 1885, the Squadron has a long history of supporting and encouraging sailing as a sport that continues on today.

Sailors at all levels go to RQYS to enjoy sailing on Moreton Bay, from beginners in Optimists or Sabots, juniors in a variety of dinghies, to their elite sailors competing with distinction in class championships at International and Olympic events. The Squadron itself hosts regular Club Championship races for their members along with State, National and International regattas.

Their Vessel Register currently includes 450+ yachts and an equal number of power craft of various sizes, shapes and designs. The Power Cruising Group enjoys friendly navigation racing events, competing in Squadron member’s vessels and against other clubs in Queensland and interstate.

It’s not all racing though, with families enjoying the delights of relaxing on their yachts while sailing around the islands with the Sailing Cruising Group, taking advantage of the more leisurely side of boating. Both groups have regular events with weekend trips to local destinations and longer cruising rallies to exotic locations. RQYS also has its own private island retreat at Canaipa Point on Russell Island in southern Moreton Bay, complete with a caretaker, campsites, open fire pit, an amenities block and swimming pool.

RQYS are proud of their Sailing Academy which is instrumental in introducing the next generation of sailors to the sport and the Squadron’s Tackers youth program has developed into one of the largest and most successful in the country.

RNYC members can be guaranteed a warm welcome.
