Over the weekend eight members of the Royal Natal Yacht Club participated in the South African Sailing Safety Boat Training Course hosted by Henley Midmar Yacht Club on the picturesque Midmar Dam. Joined by 3 young members from HMYC the group enjoyed two days of lectures and practical training on the water under the guidance of SAS Instructor Iuan Gray.
The course was presented by South African Sailing as part of the National Training Scheme aimed at developing the skills of our Race Support volunteers. Valuable techniques and safety measures were practiced and we are pleased that we have developed a core of members who are now trained Safety Boat Crew equipped with the necessary skills in line with the guidelines of South African Sailing and World Sailing.
This is another important development for our Club and we encourage other members wishing to improve their knowledge and boat handling skills to participate in these and other training programs available. By improving our collective knowledge base and the number of competent race management crew we are better equipped to provide quality yachting events. We encourage members to volunteer; it is not only very rewarding but also a fun way to spend time on the water. Should you be interested in volunteering contact Margie Harris in the Sailing Office.
