Wednesday Fun’d Sailing Sailors Dinner

Good day Sailors

The Wednesday night Fun’d sailing supper last Saturday was well attended and was held in the  relaxed atmosphere of the Trafalgar Room.  Margie worked her magic on the table settings and Steve Rawlins and his team supplied a lovely meal.

Our Rear Commodore Hans Dettman welcomed everyone, especially our Standard  Bank Wealth Management Team Sponsors, headed up by Adele von Landsberg and her colleague Donovan and spoke of our great sailing season

PYC Rear – Ron Pet was also with us and he was acknowledged for his input of the handicap system/ratings now in use.  These will carry on into our next season.  Hans then handed over to our Commodore who also seconded Hans’s comments, giving well deserved praise to SBWM team for their participation over the season and being part of the RNYC family.

Mr Rose also thanked me for my duties as Race officer throughout the season, and for heading up our CANSA funding.  I am only as good as my team and I had a great team backing me the whole way, from all the Flag officers, Rescue support, Results team and our sailing secretary Margie.  It has been hard work and commitment to each season;  I would really like to encourage more people to come and get  involved and volunteer to take part in the various facets of Sailing;  come aboard the bridge boat or Rescue.  We are good teachers and we don’t bite.  There are many parts of being a member of a Sailing Club so don’t feel shy, everyone has a talent – and we encourage you to bring yours to the foreground.

We also held the Viking Life Jacket raffle and Graham Weyer won it, but graciously handed it back to be re-drawn.  This time Hayley’s daughter Bella won it –  way to go Bella – thank you to everyone who participated – we raised R1300 for the CANSA fund.

It has been an honour and a privilege heading up Wednesday Night Fun’d Sailing – Thank you one and all for your support :  as always truly appreciated.  Without sailors, there would be no sailing,  and what a pity that would be.

Also a reminder that the next keeper event will be to Richards Bay – weather permitting,  the weekend of 19th – 21 May.  Please contact Margie for further details.  Zululand YC are looking forward to having all the Keelers  join them

Yours in Sailing
