Amakati Report – Sunday 17 July 2016

20151108_124032Dear Amakati,

Report on Amakati sailing exploits this past weekend

Waterfront Winter Series Catamaran Racing. This past Sunday 17th  July

Amazingly, what looked to be a dismal day weather wise, turned out to be okay with 7 Halcats rigged to sail?! I ran the RO duties.

Wind was very light, but a total of 4 races were sailed. Neil Wadsworth almost did a clean sweep of 4 bullets, but was stopped by Richard Potgieter getting a 1st place in race 3. This was the last in the winter series for this event.

Forthcoming Events.

Woza Friday Winter Special  22nd July

This Friday at 16:30 is the “one and only” race day in the Woza Winter Speical Series. We had planned another rasce day, but it clashed with the SAS KZN Grand Slam event scheduled at that time.

Please contact Phil Downing this week for braai pack requirements associated with this fun and festive event.

We will have a big high tide of 2m at 17:30 and there will be wind!

Oyster Box offshore race for Keelers Sunday 31st July.

I know for a fact, pending really adverse weather and sea conditions, that Graham Weyer, Andy Brown, Richard Potgieter and myself will be sailing this on our Darts and Halcats. I’m sure the Wadsworth’s will also sail? For the rest of you, the invitation is there.

We will make the necessary arrangement for Scorpio to escort the fleet of catamarans, sailing with the keelers, on this long distance race to Umhlanga Rocks and back. The turning mark is planned to be set off the Oyster Box, hence the name of the race.

More on this closer to the time.

SAS KZN Grand Slams, Saturday 6th August to Tuesday 9th August 2016

A reminder that this event is scheduled over the 4 days as stated above. Tuesday is a public holiday.

Halcats will sail under the RNYC Bridge in the Harbour and Darts and Hobies will sail under the PYC Bridge offshore. Should be a great event!
