Carol Ferguson’s report

Ahoy fellow sailors –

Here we are mid-February with another Wednesday night under our belt.  Only THREE RNYC WEDNESDAY FUN’D RACES TO GO

Last week’s race, although good wind and a good turn out – had the sailors confused as to the way they should finish  – and I did put out there that I was partly responsible but sailors – please read your sailing instructions beforehand for the relevant course flag flying and the said course for specific wind – it was SSW +- 16 gusting

8.1.2 of the AMENDED SAILING INSTRUCTIONS – circulated  1 NOV 2016 reads:-  South Westerly  – Blue pennant with white inner circle

Start in the vicinity of E1 between bridge boat and the red spherical mark, then proceed to M1, M2, M3 M1, M2 and finish between the bridge boat and finish (red spherical) mark in vicinity of E1.

Unfortunately, there were a number of boats that did not finish correctly and I made the decision to DNF most of the fleet.

But guess what, there is always next week – we are all human !

Once again we have STANDARD BANK to thank for our lovely prizes – Adele our Std Bank representative was off sick last week and is away on business this week – hopefully we shall see her back sailing with us very soon.

Sunday 19th RNYC hosting an off shore race – I haven’t looked at weather conditions for that yet but hope to see you on the water.

We are still raising funds for our CANSA ASSOC. and to date should have approximately R25 – 30k in the bank, thanks to our very generous patrons.  In this regard, we are hosting a SHAVE A THON on Sunday 26th February between 10am and 3pm – come and join us for a shave or a spray – – how many places give you a hair- cut for R50 – the CANSA ASSOC donates the spray etc and the money we raise goes straight into our funding.  Last year we managed to raise R4k in one afternoon – lets aim for R5k this time.   Rob Main-Baillie will be helping us and Kate will be singing.  Jennifer has Juniors and I think Waterfront Cat sailing also on.  So a very busy day.

Thereafter a Ladies luncheon will be held on 11th March.

Our final RNYC WEDNESDAY FUN’D RACE will be held on 22nd MARCH and Nadia from the CANSA Assoc will be with us to receive a cheque on behalf of the Royal Natal Yacht Club.

We have had a great season so far let’s continue to do so.

My thanks as always to Hans, Jennifer, Moses, and to you the sailors for your unfailing support – also Clive Jackson, Hemraj, Ron Pet helping with results

As always yours in sailing
