On Tuesday evening, 14th June 2016, members of the Lipton Team that were in town had the honour of joining the Commodore, Mr Graham Rose, Vice Commodore, Mr Keith Brodie, Honorary Commodore, Mr Willy Vandeverre and Lipton Trustee, Mr Hemraj Gokal for dinner with our Orion B2G2 Sponsor Mr Ellian Perch. An entertaining evening was had by all and the team spent time chatting to Mr Perch about the Lipton Cup and being entertained with
stories of Mr Perch’s sailing days. Mr Perch has also arranged for the “on
water” team to have a rubber duck available while in Cape Town, to ensure that the necessary support is available to the team. The team would like to thank Mr Rob Samways for undertaking this task, which requires many hours of sitting in the cold on a rubber duck, but in nonetheless a very important requirement.
We are very honored and grateful to have such an enthusiastic sponsor of our campaign. We go into this event with a good boat, good sails and well equipped in every way, and it is now up to this dedicated and loyal team to do the rest.
The boat will be towed down to Cape Town soon. Two members of the team will be down when the boat arrives and will undertake to get her in the water and prepare her for the event. The rest of the team will arrive in CapeTown on the 7th July 2016 and will immediately begin with the process of getting the registration done, weigh in (always stressful) and safety scrutineering completed, before the opening ceremony.
