The Opening Cruise

The Opening Cruise

This Sunday, 9th September, marks the official opening of the sailing season in Durban and in keeping with longstanding tradition it the Royal Natal Yacht Club’s turn to take the salute.  The Opening Cruise marks the start of our 161st sailing season and we invite you to join us for a cup of coffee on the Ndongeni Lawns before the opening ceremonies which start at 9am.

It is unfortunate that PYC was unable to accept our invitation to participate in a joint opening cruise this year. However we understand and appreciate that some yachtsmen may wish to participate in the 5th annual Bart’s Bash next weekend and contribute to raising funds for the Andrew Simpson Foundation. We certainly do not want our event to conflict or detract from the significance of this global fund raising event. Of course the good news is this simply provides us all with the opportunity to take to the water this Sunday as a shakedown in preparation for next week as we are all eagerly looking forward to finally enjoying some spring sailing and time on the water after the winter layup.

We hope to see as many boats as possible from all clubs participating in Durban’s 161st sail past this Sunday and of course the RN fleet will again be out next Sunday when we can all use our sailing efforts to raise funds for this worthy charity ( ).  For the sake of promoting sailing in Durban, we look forward to good sized fleets participating in both events.

Please remember to register your participation with the Sailing Office so you can be allocated a bow number and order of procession in the sail past. ( or call Shanee on 031 301 5425)
